The Beginning!

This year I have decided to make a blog of my various stories. I started writing this story about one or two months ago for a writing club I am doing. I will post a few paragraphs every week or two, so I hope you come back to see some of my literature. I hope you enjoy!

A track! It couldn't be! No one had been out of the colony after the sand storm. Sand storms were common on Mars, but they were still extremely dangerous. No one but me had been seen going in or out of the colony according to the security camera. But the tracks didn't go to the colony. To my right, the tracks went straight until they disappeared over a hill. To my left, they went down toward the colony’s generator. The trip was long to the generator and the storm had just happened yesterday, so I knew whoever had made the tracks was not far away.

My job in the colony was to collect special rocks and metals so I and my team of ten other workers were the first ones to go outside on the barren planet, and I knew that I was the first one to come this way. A small job, but important. If I didn't find enough materials, the colony would fail because there would not be enough fuel to heat the settlement. Scientists had found a substance inside of metal that was flammable. One piece the size of your fist could heat the whole colony for an hour! The only problem was that metal was very scarce on the dust and dry terrain of Mars, so it took quite a while to find small pieces and we had to keep on traveling farther and farther away from the colony.

I studied the tracks and saw that there were indeed two sets of tracks. So without further notice I decided to follow the tracks to the left, not knowing that if I didn't follow the tracks the colony would be overrun; but if I did, I would put my life at risk.

Please come back in a few days for my next part in this story!
